The Baptismal Font from Siena
In the crypt of the Bode-Museum, the Skulpturensammlung and the Gipsformerei are currently showing the collaborative exhibition “The Baptismal Font from Siena. History, Restoration and Reinstallation of a Plaster Cast Model”. At the centre of the exhibition is the historical plaster cast model of the baptismal font from the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Siena in the collection of the Gipsformerei.
Since the 1870s, the Gipsformerei has been selling casts of the entire monument as well as of the reliefs and statuettes – and, most recently, of the so-called sportello, the small bronze door on the tabernacle with a relief of the Virgin and Child.
