Masterpieces of the Gipsformerei (English)
Objektinformationen "Masterpieces of the Gipsformerei (English)"
Goethe was one of the customers of the plaster mold workshop of the National Museums in Berlin, which was founded in 1819. As one of the oldest and largest institutions of its kind, it still produces and sells hand-crafted and hand-painted casts to this day. The Berlin art manufactory's unique collection of 7,000 works takes visitors on a journey through world cultures from prehistory to the present day. Among the works are many casts whose originals have either been lost or are in a much poorer state of preservation. This catalogue presents both the wide range of works on offer and the historical development and cultural significance of this fascinating institution.
